Bond Amount:    $21,000,000

Purpose:              Funding will be used to add new facilities, enhance current facilities and expand the Town’s network of trails.

Project Costs:     $22,000,000


Note:  Other funding sources include federal/state/local grants, such as PARTF, Land Water Conservation Fund, Clean Water Management Trust Fund, Recreation Trails Program and Carolina Thread Trail.


Potential Harrisburg Park Expansion and Renovation Projects

Note:  The following projects are potential projects and have currently been undergoing a master plan engagement, by a third-party design/engineering firm, but has not yet been approved by Town Council.  Recommendations have been based on community input and engagement sessions over a six-month period. 


Goal with these projects:  These projects would enhance Harrisburg Park to create a premier park for the Town and the region.  There would be additional field space and indoor space for more of the Town’s athletics to be centered in one location and to potentially allow for expanded athletics offerings.

    • Senior Center/Programming
    • Indoor Walking Track
    • Teen Gathering Center
    • Park and Recreation Office Space
    • Exterior Wall Ball Courts
    • Community Room Rental Space (w/kitchen)
    • Multi-use Exercise Room
    • Restrooms/Changing Facilities
    • Indoor Multi-Sport Courts
      • Basketball, volleyball, pickle ball, etc.
  • Amenities
    • Splash Pad
    • Amphitheater (1,600-person capacity)
    • Additional Athletics and Multi-Purpose Fields
    • Park Entrance/Exit Improvements
    • Additional 2.2 Miles of Bike and Walking Trails
    • Approximately 300 additional parking spaces
    • New Playgrounds
    • Pump Track
    • Dog Park

Note:  The following projects are potential projects and have not been fully analyzed by staff or approved by Town Council. 


Goal with these projects:  These projects would provide additional amenities to Town residents in greenways and additional park land.  Many deferred maintenance items that are typically beyond the scope of the annual operating budget would be able to be addressed.
