Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in partnership with the State of North Carolina, is updating the FEMA floodplain maps. These new maps will go into effect on November 16, 2018 and replace the 2008 maps. The Town of Harrisburg is required to update these maps to maintain participation in National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to allow property owners in the floodplain to purchase Federal Flood Insurance.
Town Council approved the amendment to Harrisburg’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Section 4.14.6 at the October 8 meeting to update the effective date of these Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM). Property owners are encouraged to visit https://fris.nc.gov/fris/Home.aspx?ST=NC and view their properties in relation to these updated maps. Any questions can be directed to the Town’s Planning and Economic Development Department at 704-455-0738.
