The Engineering Department conducts efforts in five areas:
- Design Services
- Construction Administration and Inspection
- Street Maintenance-Powell Bill
- Private Development Coordination including Construction Plan Review
The department also offers input and guidance on the Town's water supply and distribution, wastewater treatment-WSACC, and applying for grants.
Engineering responsibilities include plan review, reviewing applicable permits and encroachment agreements related to development applications and observing the construction of new public infrastructure to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations. The department compiles final engineered as-built/record drawings of new water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure.
This department maintains a frequent communication relationship with the NCDOT, the Water & Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County (WSACC), several divisions of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR), and Cabarrus County.
Capital Improvement Projects (CIP)
It is the Engineering Department's responsibility to schedule, design, prepare specifications, acquire permits, secure rights-of-way, advertise, bid and manage all capital improvement projects as directed and approved by the Town Council and the Town Manager. As these projects impact local residents, this department maintains communication and explains the relevance and purpose of the intended projects with local residents.
This department maintains communication with several agencies as they relate with the Town’s CIP-NCDOT, Duke Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas, Windstream, Time Warner Cable, NCDENR, WSACC, City of Concord, City of Charlotte and others as needed.
