The Town of Harrisburg provides residents with a wide range of services, including water and sewer service and yard waste removal. Bulk item pick up and garbage and recycling collection are done through a contracted vendor, Waste Pro. Winter storm road maintenance and snow removal is a joint effort of Public Works Department and North Carolina Department of Transportation crews.
The Public Works Department is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all Town-owned property and infrastructure, oversight of more than 60 miles of Town-maintained streets and sidewalks, storm water services, sanitation and related services. The Public Works Department also staffs the Water and Sewer and Storm Water Departments.
The Public Works Department's responsibility is to maintain and improve the long-term quality and reliability of water and sewer services in the Town of Harrisburg. The primary goals are cost control, efficient delivery of service and environmental protection. Accordingly, it is necessary for the Town to maintain and improve the water distribution and sewer systems, to establish and administer sound billing and collection practices that are fair and within North Carolina's General Statues.
The Town uses the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County (WSACC) specifications for its design and construction standards.
