Mayor Steve Sciascia was sworn in to office on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 after serving eight years on Harrisburg Town Council. A North Carolina native and Harrisburg resident since 1999, Mayor Sciascia is setting an ambitious agenda for his first term as mayor.
Dear Harrisburg Residents, Business Owners & Visitors,
Thank you for visiting the town's official website. One of my top priorities since taking office has been to establish proactive, two-way communication with citizens and businesses to increase community engagement and education opportunities. We're interested in your comments and feedback. Please use the "Contact Us" feature on this site to share your concerns, subscribe to the town's enewsletters and engage with us via social media.
In addition to increasing transparency, Town Council is focusing on implementing the town's economic development strategic plan and aggressively recruiting diversified retail and commercial businesses to increase job opportunities and develop Harrisburg's downtown.
Your Town Council plans use goals and budget to increase accountability. Annual budget planning begins in January with a goal-setting workshop that leads into budget development for the fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. As priorities change over the course of the year, those goals allow Town Council to measure progress and make adjustments.
The vision statement adopted by the Town of Harrisburg in 2008 is our guiding document for smart growth. As the Charlotte region emerges from the recent economic recession, we intend to use the principles outlined in the statement -- small town quality of life, safe environment, excellent recreational opportunities, sustainable growth and citizen involvement -- to guide the Town of Harrisburg into a leading position among communities in the Charlotte region.
Welcome to Harrisburg!
Mayor Steve Sciascia
