With more than 40 percent of the future Fuda Creek sanitary sewer interceptor installed, blasting and construction continue toward the anticipated mid-September completion date.

The Fuda Creek Sewer Interceptor Extension -- a project from the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County (WSACC) -- will provide sewer capacity for future development within the Fuda Creek basin, including a portion of the basin in Mecklenburg County.

According to Mark Lomax, a construction project manager with WSACC, approximately 7,300 feet of 24" PVC pipe has already been installed, including the installation and maintenance of the sedimentation and erosion control devices along the project route. The project begins at the confluence of Fuda Creek and Back Creek, in between Hickory Ridge Rd. and Stallings Rd., and runs west, parallel to Fuda Creek, to the Mecklenburg County line.

Lomax said the (rock) drilling and blasting sub-contractor has test-drilled and blasted approximately 10,500 lineal feet of trench area thus far, specifically from the confluence of Fuda/Back Creek to 500 feet west of Robinson Church Road. All applicable permits have been obtained for this work.

As of Jan. 20, 2011, the project was 40 percent complete with a contract completion date of Sept. 15, 2011.
