Mayor Tim Hagler joined officials with Purple Heart Homes to break ground this weekend on a home addition for a local disabled Vietnam Veteran.

Harrisburg resident Dave “IHOP” Morrell is the most recent recipient of a fully-funded project through Purple Heart Homes, which aims to assist “mobility limited Veterans by remodeling or building new housing,” according to their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/PurpleHeartHomes. In the hopes of increasing Morrell’s mobility throughout his home, Purple Heart Homes – a Veteran-owned non-profit agency – and their volunteers will add a new bedroom and bathroom to the existing house. Alongside Morrell, Purple Heart Homes founders Dale Beatty and John Gallina, other veterans and Morrell family members, Hagler dug his gold shovel into the dirt Saturday at the project’s groundbreaking ceremony.
