With the assistance of monies from a Community Development Block Grant, Cabarrus County can now provide low-income homeowners with some much-needed housing repairs.

Under the county's CDBG Scattered Site Housing Rehabilitation program, homeowners can apply for full housing rehabilitation ranging from energy efficiency upgrades to structural improvements. Some typical activities include roof and window replacements, replumbing, rewiring, heating/air conditioning repairs and modifications to safety/handicap accessibility.

The Community Development Block Grant was awarded to Cabarrus County by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments. The CDBG program “is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs,” according to the organization's website. Grants are annually appropriated to states and local jurisdictions.

To qualify for Cabarrus County's CDBG Scattered Site Housing Rehabilitation Program, clients must be homeowners and meet low-income HUD guidelines. Proof of ownership and income verification are required. This program is available countywide with the exception of the corporate limits of the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis.
