With the needs of Harrisburg businesses at the forefront, Town Administrator Michele Reapsmith met with members of the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce Board on Thursday to discuss development throughout town. Local business owner Emily Knudson from Empowered Fitness also joined the meeting, representing the Harrisburg Business Advocacy Group (HBAG), “an essential arm of the Chamber's mission in Harrisburg,” said Reapsmith.

Officials “discussed increased marketing of Harrisburg and methods of sustainability from an economic development perspective,” added Reapsmith. She mentioned that an important component of the Chamber's role in Harrisburg is providing business owners with a variety of educational and helpful programs, including the Small Business Tool Box, Business Tune-up Session and Consult with the Experts Sessions. Reapsmith said she “would recommend that our Harrisburg businesses reach out to the Chamber to take advantage of what they have to offer.”

Following discussion at Town Hall, officials toured one of Harrisburg's largest businesses, Wood Brothers Racing. Parts Manager Terry Hall guided the tour of the 160,000 square-foot facility on Hwy 49, exploring all aspects of creating a racecar, answering the many questions that emerged, and telling stories from the 60-year history of Woods Brothers.

Acknowledging this Harrisburg-business' milestone, Reapsmith said, “They are now celebrating their 60th anniversary and I am glad the Town was able to wish them well in conjunction with the Chamber and hope that they are in Harrisburg for the next 60 years. Congratulations to the Wood family.”

The Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce Board is slated to have their annual retreat today and report their review of Thursday's meeting in Harrisburg.
