Due to several navigation problems Emergency Service agencies have encountered in recent months, the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office will soon begin issuing parking citations to vehicle owners violating the Town's Parking Code.
Chapter 71 of the Harrisburg Town Code dictates parking regulations. Section 71.03 "Parking Not to Obstruct Traffic" states: “No person shall park any vehicle upon a
street, other than an alley, in such a manner or under such conditions as to leave available less than 22 feet of width of roadway for free movement of vehicular traffic.”
According to a letter distributed to area subdivision residents, on more than one occasion, the Harrisburg Fire Department has had to walk to a 911 emergency call after reaching a subdivision due to cars parked on the street, which created a roadblock. The emergency response vehicles could not pass and alternate routes within the subdivision had the same problem. (One of the full letters can be seen
here.)
Starting Jan. 1, 2011, the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office will begin issuing parking citations for any vehicle parked on a Harrisburg street which leaves less than 22 feet of width of roadway for free movement of vehicular traffic. Residents are encouraged to make arrangements to utilize garages, driveways or off-street options for parking.
