Following a special Planning and Zoning Board meeting Monday evening, Harrisburg Town Council voted 5-1 to approve temporary for-profit signage within town limits.

The revised town policy -- H2010-09-(T), an Ordinance to Amend Article 12 of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) -- now allows temporary, portable signs within the Town of Harrisburg. Council members approved a "sunset provision" in conjunction with the amendment. This provision "would immediately bring back the pre-Text Amendment language as of February 1, 2011," said Planning Director Joshua Watkins.

However, planning and zoning officials hope to utilize this trial period of temporary signage to collect data that will ultimately shape permanent allowances for such signs.

For more information about these changes, contact the Planning and Zoning department of the Town of Harrisburg.
