On Nov. 16, Mayor Tim Hagler joined officials from across North Carolina and Cabarrus County for the 2011 State of the Region Summit.

Hosted annually by the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce, leaders and guests gather to discuss the progress made throughout the County throughout the previous year, also noting expectations and challenges for the year ahead.

Following comments by State Senator Fletcher Hartsell, Mayor Hagler joined the mayors of Concord, Kannapolis and Mount Pleasant as well as Midland's town administrator for local updates on growth, jobs, transportation and other resident concerns.

Hagler specifically noted the Town of Harrisburg's immense population boom from 2000 to 2010, evident within Census information released earlier this year.  He discussed some of the reasons why individuals choose to call Harrisburg "home" today, including area schools. Ninety-eight new houses, he said, have been built in Town in 2011 thus far.

Hagler also mentioned the increase in retail square footage approved by Town Council that may draw businesses toward this portion of Cabarrus County. The Mayor also briefly discussed both the four new Council members who will take their seats this December as well as a major anticipated change in Harrisburg's future -- the Haydock-to-Junker high-speed rail second line.
