With numerous vehicle break-ins reported in Harrisburg and the surrounding region, the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department is reminding residents to exert the utmost caution.

Sgt. Tessa Burchett noted that there have been "a number of vehicle break-ins in several neighborhoods in the Harrisburg area since early July." The Sheriff's Department is investigating all possible leads and will continue to do so, "however, at this point no arrests have been made."

With that in mind, she encourages residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables -- purses, laptops, money, GPS devices, etc. -- from vehicles as well.

"This is also a great time to record serial and model numbers of your valuables because in the worst case scenario where your items are stolen, this helps us track your property down and catch those responsible."

She also suggests sharing this information with friends, family and neighbors to ensure all residents keep their possessions safe.
